  John Wayne plays one of his juiciest roles as leather-tough rancher Wil Andersen who, deserted by his regular help, is forced to hire 11 greenhorn schoolboys for a cattle drive across 400 treacherous miles. And if that isn’t enough of a challenge, he is being trailed by the villainous cattle rustler Long Hair (Bruce Dern), who holds a grudge against him.
