The aircraft carrier Akagi was the iconic flagship of the Imperial Japanese Navy during the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought the USA into World War II. The Akagi had begun life as a battlecruiser in 1920, but she was converted to an aircraft carrier and relaunched in 1925. Progressively modernized as aircraft became increasingly important in naval warfare during the 1930s, she took part in Japan’s war with China during 1939. Going on to serve in many operations of World War II after Pearl Harbor, she was finally sunk at the end of the battle of Midway on 5 June 1942 by Japanese destroyers, to prevent her falling into enemy hands. This incredibly detailed, 1:250 scale model of the Akagi measures over a metre long. It features 21 scale-model aircraft and is made up of hundreds of laser-cut wooden parts, die-cast metal parts and photo-etched brass fittings that will give many hours of modelling pleasure. The Akagi is available exclusively to ModelSpace customers as a series of 25 monthly instalments of £24. This model is not available anywhere else and is a stunning addition to any ship modeller's collection. With clear step-by-step instructions plus accompanying photographs and diagrams showing how to assemble the model, the aircraft carrier Akagi is suitable for beginners and pros alike. Your step-by-step instructions are available to download each month. We will send you an email to let you know when these are ready for download.
